Join Nexus Energy for a live lunch-and-learn about new solar investment strategy for businesses from LightWave Solar. The seminar is oriented to CPAs, CFOs, Business Owners and Facility Managers to show how solar energy investments work for businesses.
LightWave Solar, based in Antioch, Tennessee is a NABCEP certified contractor participating in the new TVA Green Power Providers program. The presentation will cover financial incentives for commercial solar projects and show cash flow analyses, including a finance model that shows a 33% 20-year IRR on cash outlay for a 50kW solar installation. The approach combines a 5% 10 year loan, federal tax incentives and TVA’s Green Power Providers solar premiums.
Nexus Energy Center is an Alabama non-profit with a mission to empower energy consumers to reduce waste and transform the market for energy efficient buildings and renewable energy options. They offer a residential solar rebate program and residential energy efficiency loan and rebate program. The WISE Solar Rebate is an incentive on the purchase and installation of any photovoltaic or solar hot water system in a 7 county region of Alabama. They address efficiency first and then help you switch to a renewable energy source.
The residential solar program is on hold since TVA announced recently it already had reached its cap on projects the agency will provide financial incentives for during 2013. Some capacity may still be left for smaller systems of up to 10 kilowatts, typically what a home would use, but thats nearing its limit as well, said Steve Johnson, owner of Nashvilles LightWave Solar.
There is a possibility that some of the 7.5 megawatts that already has been reserved could come back on the market later this year if the successful applicants dont complete their approved installations within the required 180 days. TVA has said it will release the unused capacity by the end of the year.
TVA will be accepting Green Power Providers program applications later this year on a first-come, first-served basis. They offer help to get your project in the queue for approval. LightWave Solar’s new finance model shows a 33% 20-year IRR on cash outlay for a 50kW solar installation. The approach combines a 5% 10 year loan, federal tax incentives and TVA’s Green Power Providers solar premiums. Here are the financial benefits:
- Return on cash outlay in less than one year
- Cash flow positive in first year
- Re-direct 2013 tax payment into energy cost reduction project
- 20-year contract with TVA for generation credits
- Leveraged 20-year IRR = 33%!
- Who can benefit most from a 50kW system? A business who:
- Owns building or has long-term lease
- Pays between $7,500-$80,000/year for electricity
- Has 2013 tax liability of $69,000 or more
- Is cost conscious and sees the value in hedging against rising utility costs
