January 2014 Message from the Executive Director
January 2, 2014
A note from the Director-
Dear Nexus Supporters,
I want to personally thank you all for continuing to stay interested in Nexus Energy Center. Nexus is always moving and shaking to make our community a more energy efficient and smarter place to live, work and play. Our AlabamaWISE program and educational efforts are truly stimulating interest in “Saving Energy to Save Money”. The coming 2014 year will be an exciting one for Nexus, as we conclude our grant supported efforts and delve into new but still energy-focused projects. We are committed to helping those that need lower utility bills and a more comfortable house. We are also committed to sharing all energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities we feel the community to should take advantage of. Strike while the iron’s hot. On that note…
I like to live by example and take advantage of all the energy saving programs available myself. Those who know me, know I’m a huge fan of the Toyota Prius and have been a proud owner since 2005. Recently, we decided to take the next step and trade in the Prius for the all-electric Nissan Leaf. The decision was not easy because my commute is close to 50 miles a day and we didn’t want me stranded on I-565 with an empty battery. But the incentives were too hard to pass up. The federal government is offering $7,500 for electric vehicles right now and the dealership is making great leasing deals. All in all, we are excited about our new adventures with an all-electric car.
A tag line has been added to Nexus Energy Center, “Building Smart Energy Communities”, because we want everyone to be clear about our mission to educate Alabama citizens about efficiency, conservation, and renewable energy. We know our office can be a showcase of how to become a Smart Energy Community. Stay engaged with Nexus in 2014 to be a part of important membership meetings, technology demonstration sessions, training opportunities and on-site permanent displays.
