How to save energy at home
It seems that saving energy around the house is quite complex. There are plenty of ways to upgrade your home to be environmentally-friendly, reduce your utility usage and energy costs ….but most of them can be expensive. However, there are numerous inexpensive lifestyle changes you can adopt that will save energy and money, in the long run.
Here are some of them to get you started.
Replace your devices
When it comes the time to replace old appliances or buy a new one, check the Energy Guide label and make sure that it is energy-efficient. An Energy Star appliance use significantly smaller amount of energy and water than an old one. It may be more expensive than conventional but in the long run, you will actually save a lot of money and of course money.
Turn off the light
How many times have you left the room without being switched off the lights? This happens due to carelessness but it is easy to be avoided…especially if you take into consideration that lighting makes up about 10% of home energy costs. So… turn off the light!
Plant trees in your garden
If you want to keep naturally your home cool in summer and warm in winter…, then planting trees in your garden is an inexpensive way. Deciduous trees are a good choice. They will shade your home during a sunny summer day. Furthermore, the leaves that have fallen from the trees will allow warming sunlight into your home in winter. Use recyclable materials
Recycling saves energy because it reduces the need to consume natural resources. Every time we manufacture new products from raw materials a huge amount of energy is required to extract and process these materials. On the contrary, the construction of new items using recyclable materials, that have already processed once, needs significantly less energy. As recycling reduces greenhouse gas emissions is not only a way to save energy but also to tackle climate change. Items made from glass, plastic, paper or aluminum may be able to be recycled.
Open your door and window
Do you know that a big part of a home’s energy consumption is due to cool the houses’ space off? So.. during a hot day try not to use the air-conditioning. Open your doors and windows….Fresh air will come in and the temperature of house’s space will be reduced in a few minutes. Enjoy it!
